The Mc Kinley is our ever-popular AM/SSB DIN-sized radio with front-firing loudspeaker.  It's out-of-the-box usability, strong and long-range sound and internal SWR calibration are why you want this radio. 

 

Warranty: President radios are backed with a 2-year warranty. When purchased with an external President antenna, the radio warranty increases to 5 years under our 2+3 program.

A good radio but the menu isn't intuitive

I've had this radio in an 18 wheeler for about 3 and a half years. The only actual trouble I've had with it is that the numbers on the display sometimes are faded a bit. That being said, it fits into a DINN (I think that's called a DINN slot) that a conventional car radio would fit into. I had it installed in the dash of a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia and it worked pretty good......

A versatile Single Sideband radio

This is a very nice radio. Out of the box the radio performs well. The forward facing speaker works really well. I will not need to add an external speaker. The packaging is good and the instructions are acceptable. I would recommend watching YouTube to better assist you in becoming familiar with this radio. 20/20 hindsight, I would choose this radio again.

Great Radio!! Very Compact for a SSB radio.

Great Radio, and as always Great Quality with President. Love the compact package, have it mounted on a RAM mount, cupholder mount. Talked to Minneapolis Minnesota barefoot with the skip, from Kansas City.

Adequate CB

Front speaker makes mounting in many positions possible. Auto squelch works well unless noise levels are very high, then use manual. Have not tried SSB. Built in SWR meter easy to use and has audio assist so you don’t need two people to adjust the SWR, just listen. Got several responses of “it’s workin’” on Channel 19 after asking for radio checks. Used radio on xcountry trip and got advance notice of highway trouble ahead. Does the job. Hard to say comparatively how well given the limited experience.

The President McKinley is a very nice small radio

Small in size, but not in features. I was suprised by the front firing speaker. It is small, but it sounds very good and allows for a forward throw rather than pointing at the floor of my truck. All features have worked well and the learning curve on the digital menu is pretty easy to pick up. All in all, I am very pleased!

A great sounding radio, easy to operate and worth the money.

I used to be an avid CB'er back in the 70's and 80's but in 1987 I got my Amateur Radio License and Left CB Radio behind. Recently I was listening to a group of CB'ers on channel 34 in my area. They were on every evening and seemed very friendly. I was using my Ham Radio to listen so I thought I would look at some of the modern CB Radios and pick one out. I decided on the President Mckinley because it had Single Sideband capability too. I read the reviews and was impressed so, I ordered one. The radio has a great receiver and has all the features you need to filter out noise and pulses. it's very easy to set up and use and it uses quality components. I now talk to the group on channel 34 every once in a while and they like the way the radio sounds on air. President CB's were a quality product back in the 70's and 80's and still are today.

Versatile and Easy to use CB

I used this CB on a recent trip. It's easy to use. I liked the speaker being mounted on the front of the radio. Being able to also receive the NOAA weather stations proved useful. The scan function worked well.

Love this SSB Radio

Really surprised with this little guy. The automatic squelch control is amazing! The built in SWR tuning is a great feature and as mentioned in other reviews performs just as well as an external SWR meter. So simple to operate. Do yourself a favor and read the user manual so that you know all the things this little beast can do. This is by far the best SSB rig I have ever owned.

Good Quality CB with SSB Capabilities

Installed a Uniden PRO520XL a while back and decided I liked using CB enough to buy a better radio. I had a lot of issues with what I believe is alternator or spark plug noise on the cheap Uniden, the ANL on it cut the noise but also cut a lot of the signal along with it. The noise reduction features on the President seem to be a lot better at cutting the noise while still retaining a clear signal. Built in speaker is good quality. Gets loud enough without distorting. External probably would be better but I'll have this mounted close enough to me that I don't think I'll bother. Built in SWR meter is nice. Matches my external meters close enough and is always nice to have as just a final sanity check in any installation, or to just double check SWR occasionally. SSB also works well. I don't hear many people locally using it but was able to make a short contact from Texas to Georgia just running barefoot/stock power, center of the roof mounted ~50 inch antenna. Atmospheric conditions are obviously the main limitation but shows that this radio can get out there.

I like the idea of a speaker on the face of the radio instead of the bottom of the unit. Also like the idea that you can go up or down on the channels from the mike. It was easy to install as well.

Whats not to like about a radio that emits a continuous sound while adjusting the SWR until your antenna is adjusted properly. The radio has AM, USB and LSB. It has a front facing, nice sounding speaker and a beautiful digital color display that allows you to select the color. It has a bunch of menu settings to choose from and it has a weather channel feature....

Perfect little radio

Installed in a 2004 Toyota Tacoma. It mounted flush under the existing AM/FM without needing to cut or modify the dash at all. Just some minor modifications to the existing mounting bracket so it would accommodate the new President McKinley radio. I paired it with a Browning BR-78 mounted on the rear passenger side using a CB antenna mount bracket from Rago Fabrication specially designed for the Toyota pickup (Highly Recommended). Got my SWR to 1.4 by bringing the antenna nearly all the way out of the adjustment and tightened it down. I keyed up and got a radio check from a couple drivers a few miles away. Happy with the CB so far....

Ordered a PRESIDENT McKinley CB SSB ... and PRESIDENT Alabama Antenna (along with mount hardware) I received all parts quickly. Just finished the Install on my 2015 Superduty. Quality of parts and radio above expectations. Transmitted and received on LSB at 20+ miles. Live South of Seattle , so that is impressive for a mobile unit. AM transmission 10x10 at 5+ miles. Could not be happier.. It's been 10 years since my last CB. (Texas Ranger) Look forward to another purchase for my Infiniti

Buy This Radio

... Tried out the audible SWR meter that is built in, and wow! It made tuning the antenna so much easier than getting in and out of the vehicle multiple times trying to dial it in. All the features worked and it transmitted and received just fine. As soon as my new mount gets here, I will be putting it in my truck. I need to get an adapter so it will slide right into the stereo slot, since its DIN sized. Overall, its as good of radio as my Galaxy DX959 and in some ways even better due to the memory and scan features

Great radio, but my unit arrived with dead speaker and spurious tone in receive.

....Very attractive, modern radio with a lot going for it. Installation was straightforward. The small size of this unit allows for many options for install. Unfortunately, upon power-up, no output from internal speaker. The external speaker output worked fine. Great reception, except a very low level tone, maybe around 1KHz or so, was present in AM receive. No problems noted during SSB reception. Power output and modulation was right up where it should be. I like this radio, and believe the problems I experienced with this individual unit are simply a random manufacturing defect. I have returned the defective radio, and will be ordering a replacement.

Best for the money at any price

Way better then I expected...takes a few day to learn all the functions so if you are an old CBer like me, you will be very happy. Just be patient and work your way through the feathers. I own 3 CBs and this one blows them all away. I can't even come up with any improvements. ITS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY.

Set it and forget it

I bought this to replace an "export" radio with a bazillion settings on it that was in my motor home because I was tired of constantly checking all the switches and knobs to make sure it was set properly.... I love the fact that all of the settings have to be deliberately accessed in the set up menu to change them. That completely eliminates the possibility that they will accidentally get "bumped" out of whack. You can even lock the controls once they are set, but it's not really necessary....

Feature packed radio

I like the President cb radios, well thought out features in a nice compact package. The McKinley has some nice features that work, the SWR meter / adjustment works perfectly. The front firing speaker works really well for mounting locations that are not above your head or in the dash. The multiple button functions work well after a bit of practice. I paired the radio with the President Montana antenna and was up and running within a half hour, having the SRW functionality allowed me to make the many modifications to the whip quickly..... The sound of this radio is way above the older CB it replaces, was able to pickup conversations that were too faint to effectively listen to on my older radio. The weather alert functionality is a nice feature that has value during longer road trips. Great radio for the money spent.

It works great!

..purchased two of these CB/SSB radios for myself and my friend, who lives six miles away from my home. We split the cost, cobbled together 12 volt power, antenna cables, ground wires, and towers. In good conditions, every evening about 10:30 p.m, we're able to have a conversation over the airwaves. On some nights, the conditions are not good for conversations. I like the radio. He does too.

Exactly what I wanted and expected on day one.

.... So far I'm impressed. It fit in my dash exactly as I expected it would. It sounds great and all the functions are easy to use. I havent had a chance to test its range other then to my truck parked next to me so this review will be undated at a later date. Got a perfect 1.0 SWR on all channels using a Wilson 2000 trucker on a 4 inch potbelly spring mounted on the roof (hard mounted, yes I drilled a hole in my roof).

Great radio, it beats the uniden 980 hands down. Display is good and easy to see even on a bright day with the top off the Jeep, the front mounted speaker makes it easier to mount just about anywhere without being muffled. The auto squelch control is nice....

Installed in my F-150 and it works beautifully with the right Antenna

I installed this in my 2018 F-150 and it works wonderfully. I ended up replacing the antenna I had with the recommend one (from their website) which is -> PRESIDENT ELECTRONICS "MARYLAND" RW CB RADIO ANTENNA.... This is a wonderful radio! - Audio is loud/clear - Noise Cancellation works as it should - Scanning is FAST which makes catching traffic a lot easier - Configurable background color (Blue, Green and Orange) There's a ton of other options on this radio, I'm extremely happy with it

Scan is a little touchy.

... enjoying this radio so far. I bought it to use as a SSB base station and since I'm messing around with different antenna options the built-in audible SWR meter is great. It has all the features you could want and I'm sure would be excellent for mobile use due to the front facing speaker and great sound quality. The only problem I have experienced is that the scan/squelch threshold is not as defined as other radios. There is no real hard line between static and silence, so sometimes the radio won't enter scan mode or breaks the squelch and stops on channels that seem to be completely silent. I've also had to listen to a lot of choppy static just to hear the conversation that was more audible on my handheld with a rubber ducky antenna. This has also caused me to over-squelch the radio and miss out on some signals as I tested it with my handheld that does have a pretty precise squelch threshold. The thresholds can be different between AM/USB/LSB so it has to be adjusted when moving back and forth between modes, but this is minor. However, in AM mode, the Automatic Squelch Control (ASC) does work well on this radio but you cannot use ASC in USB/LSB. Overall great purchase and I hope I can figure out my antenna situation soon and start hearing more skip!

......... currently installed in my Jeep Wrangler and works like a charm. Rear firing speaker is a huge bonus off-road as it eliminates the need for any other speaker. The sideband stability is rock solid and local hams comment on how well it transmits. The stock mic is what I use and it’s what works best ( road devil power mic or any other is asking for trouble. On the trail I’m told I’m heard clearly and can hold contacts out to 2km in he country! Get the antenna at the same time and buy the best coaxial cable you can find or just have a local ham operator make one. I’d recommend this radio to anyone who needs reliable comms in the woods, and SSB operation gives me the peace of mind to reach out to Hams on 27.385 MHz (LSB channel38) as far away as 15-20kms with 12 watts.

good all round radio

..... compact size, pretty decent clarity and noise rejection. very good receive and good reports on the audio with the stock mic. sideband on my radio was right on the money out of the box. only negatives would be the same on any radio this size,. you do give up a few knobs or switches compared to a full size cb, replaced with a few things requiring a 2 or 3 button menu presses. since i use this in a mobile i dont mind as i set it and thats where it stays anyway while moving. most often used controls are on the knobs or one button press away. the display is nice and easy to see in full daylight. having the speaker facing forward on a rig this small is amazing. kudos, can go in dash as its din sized "same as a standard am/fm cd player"

Very nice radio

....It has single sideband which is needed for the new status of the CB Band. It also has a scan feature that isn’t very common on CB Radios. One of the best features is the semi automatic SWR tuning. ... very compact...able to fit it into one of the overhead storage compartments in my Ford Transit Van. It can be dash mounted on a lot of vehicles. It has a front facing speaker that is great for vehicle mounting.

Compact and full featured

...... a very nice radio. I use it in a semi truck on multiple channels. It's smaller size makes it an easy install, yet, it is still a full featured cb with side band. The swr meter is very handy because it makes an audible beep that signals how close you are as you adjust the antenna. The automatic squelch is also nice. It can get a bit annoying if there is a lot of radio traffic, but, it's real easy to switch to manual... a couple things I don't like, hence the 4 star rating. It's harder to use than a cobra 29 classic because each button has multiple functions. Don't lose the manual. The channel buttons on the mic are too easy to push and I end up on the wrong channel frequently. The mic is a nice size, though. This is my first President radio and I think the extra features are worth the money for me.

Fits the dash of 1995-2004 Toyota Tacomas/4Runners and looks factory!

... installed this into the dash of my 2004 Toyota Tacoma...removed the original stereo and installed a Pioneer DIN style, then mounted this CB below the Pioneer using the factory stereo brackets from the original stereo. Unless you knew better, you would think it was factory - that's how clean this install is. The front firing speaker enables those on the air to be heard, and the single side-band feature ensures you can talk farther away by utilizing all of the power, instead of wasting it like on AM. .... years of trouble from time to time using Cobra 29 LTD radios in our constructions trucks. We upgraded to the Cobra 29 LX series hoping for better results with no luck. Not sure if its the harsh conditions or a inferior product but settling for a cheaper price ended up costing me twice as much in the long run. After reading the other good reviews I decided to give this President McKinley a try. The installation was quick and easy and Auto SWR calibration is a fantastic feature that made the setup fast and painless. Immediately we noticed a considerable increase in the range and clarity. I like the simplicity of this radio vs the others. We had several drivers fumbling for knobs and inadvertently causing other problems, so less knobs is much better in my opinion. Hands down the best feature is the ability to change channels from the microphone handset! Much faster and safer for the driver than reaching for the dial......

I work Side Band only and it has the best sounding and most quiet reception I've heard

.......Excellent noise blanker and High Cut filter. Use both at the same time. The Automatic squelch is awesome but works on AM only. Designed for in-dash mounting the size is quite small but it can be desk mounted as well using the hardware supplied. Heard the you need a more powerful microphone but signal reports are telling me the stock Mic works just fine.

A great little radio

.......blown away by the quality of this rig. Everything about this radio is quality, so far. Perhaps one of the best features on this radio is the internal SWR meter. Setup is extremely easy with this function. Also worth noting is the front-facing speaker. There is no muffled sounds with this radio. Great radio in a very small form factor

..... love this radio. I got it to upgrade from a cobra 18wxst2 and boy its a world of difference.... i can change the back light colors and adjust the RF power on the fly. The mic is quite nice as well i really enjoy the channel up and down on the mic. Auto squelch is fantastic, and the best part about this radio in my opinion is the size. I've got it right below the radio in the din slot in my 1st gen Tacoma, and it couldn't fit any better it was exactly what I was looking for.

SWR meter is amazing in this radio. It beeps faster and faster the closer you get to 1.0 so you don't have to go in and out of the vehicle to constantly check it. Auto Squelch works perfectly. USB and LSB with the clarifier tuners works very well....If you're looking for a great quality CB radio then the President McKinley should be perfect for you. The company has been around forever, they have the best costumer support, and they have the best quality on the market. Cobra doesn't even come close to this radio. And I'm also running this radio off of 24 volts. Do your research, look up this radio on Google and YouTube and try it out. You'll love it and won't have any regrets.

I have seen and used a lot of CB radios since 1978. This radio is beautiful. So many features in a compact, front speaker radio. My galaxy dx-979 is like a bad joke compared to the President McKinley. McKinley's controls are nice and crisp feeling, unlike the galaxy's sloppy controls. McKinley is super stable on SSB, unlike the drifting galaxy. McKinley sounds way better over the air than the galaxy. The McKinley is just a better all around radio than the galaxy or Uniden 980SSB. Buy the President, its only a few more bucks and ends up being less than the galaxy with the President rebate. The new standard has been set!

One nice radio!

....this is one nice radio and it performed extremely well. You gotta remember this is a 4 watt AM 12 watt SSB FCC approved and certified radio but I've been told from the radio checks I've gotten that this radio has studio-quality modulation with the stock microphone right out of the box. And when you talking on Side Band it sounds as clear as if you were talking on AM. A lot of people think I'm running a big radio that's been modified. but that's not the case this is Straight Out of the Box untouched with that quality of sound over the air. Now the $299 price point maybe a little high but I will tell you this radio show all the bells and whistles like variable power 0.5 - 4 watts, talk back, etc...

Best CB I owned

I purchased the McKinley about a month ago. I received it last week. I set it up as a base station for now using a regulated DC power supply and a Sirio S-2016 ground plane antenna. This radio is fantastic. All the features make it a great addition to my shack. Well made, great receive and transmit clarity.
