Its a CB...

Finally got it instealled and the antenna tuned. I heard voices over it in the driveway, so seems to work. Buttons easy to access and I prefer the rotary channel selector. Haven't used it over the road yet, but expect it to do well.

Good CB with all the features you need

What can I say. This radio works & has all the features you need except upper & lower side band. I got into CB back in n the 1970's during the gas shortages & helped in starting a CB Radio Club & then a Ham radio club. I purchased this radio for a SHTF situation to talk locally to my family if the cell phones went down. I was disappointed to hear only the idiots on ch 19 and no local communications or nets in operation. Seems to work good in my car and might be OK as a base station with a decent antenna & power supply....

Small package with many features

This is a good alternative if you don't have space for a regular single din sized CB such as a Uniden 980SSB. The reason I only give it four stars is that I think the buttons are kind of small. I compared the President Andy, President Bill, President Johnny III, and Uniden 980SSB (already owned the uniden as a base station). I didn't have room for the Uniden so I went with the President Andy. The tipping scale between all the president models was the speaker loudness. Means I don't have to have an external speaker. With the Bill model I definitely would have needed an external speaker and possibly for the Johnny model. The Uniden and the Pres Andy both had good speakers on par with each other. Pro's Smallish size, decent speaker, Best reception of pres units, channel change on mic, quick access to wx, 9/19 button, rf gain knob Con's screen not as bright as pres andy, shows freq on screen making channel numbers smaller, picks up engine noise, buttons small, scanning kinda slow, only three screen colors, no talkback

Good performance in a small package

Nice radio, receive is very good.... this is a nice performing radio. It is small in size but very solid construction. The stock mic sounds good. The mic is light weight but that is because it has eletrek technology which requires less bulky materials.

Excellent Compact Radio

... looking for a radio that's compact, lightweight and full of features, this radio is an excellent choice. Its small size allows it to be mounted in newer vehicles where space is all but non-existent. I bought this radio along with the sleek, modern, and [functional] President New York antenna (another excellent product).

What an upgrade when compared with my old CB

I had a Cobra 75 that I couldn't stand anymore: noisy, humongous mic yet tinny LCD lettering, and lack of remembering last channel when restarting the Jeep. The Johnny fixes all those fails and then some more. The sound quality is HAM quality. Outstanding. Also, very small and easy to mount - I have mine sandwiched between the passenger's seat and the center console. The unit never gets hot (it's a CB, so it's only 4Watts), so a tight fit won't hurt it. The mic is light and fits my JeepUniq.com mic mount perfectly...

President Johnny III - great little unit

This is a nice little radio. About the same small size as the Uniden 510/520 but a ton more features. I really like the roger beep (cool!), the ability to change the back-lighting color, the scanning weather alert that can run in the background while the CB is in use, and the channel change buttons on the mic. The ASC works surprisingly well - really don't ever have to adjust the squelch - just set it to ASC and leave it alone. Also has one touch ch 9 and 19, RF gain, PA, key beep (can turn that off if you want), 1 memory channel. Memory retains the last channel when you turn off the radio. The best feature is the scan, I like to mostly listen and this lets me do so on all 40 channels. There are a few negatives - the mounting hardware is cheezy and cheap feeling, and the mic is very light and toylike. Having said that, overall, this is a good unit. It works well with good range, and has a ton of features for it's size. I'm very pleased....

Color change is nice, mic us small and light weight some might like, but not me, the weather channel is great, small and light weight cb. The all black color and not chrome is great as I put mine on the dash and not under the dash, channel selector on the mic is not for me as I keep changing the channel, need to get use to this feature...,

Great!!!

....this little CB is awesome! It fit perfectly above my rearview mirror it is very compact and just feels indestructible. Was able to tune my SWR down to 1.2 on channel 20 on a 2' Firestick FS mounted on rear tire carrier. Right out of the box it also put out 4 watts exactly so no under performance there. After tuning the local weather came in crystal clear. The ASC option seems to be a little aggressive and has a tendency to filter out to much you get better performance manually using the squelch controller. The only flaw I found with it was the included hardware for the mic mount was to small and I was not able to attach the mic to the side of the radio without going out locally and getting the next size up. Not any kind of show stopper just an over-site that should be easily remedied by President. Over-all I am more then impressed and happy with this radio and very excited to get out on the trails with it.

Great sound quality

..... unhappy with my Cobra 75WX ST CB radio: the reception quality was very bad no matter what antenna I had (5', 4', 3'), plus I really, really hated that it kept returning to channel 9 whenever I stopped the engine. Oh, and the LCD screen is so tiny that I needed my glasses to read it. So I've replaced it with a President Johnny III USA CB. The quality difference between the two is night and day. On the last jeeping trip I had both the HAM (an YaesuFT400 and the CB on, and I couldn't tell which one was which. I had to keep an eye on the HAM's VU-meter to figure out which was which. And this is with a 2' CB antenna. ....The auto-squelch works absolutely amazingly. As I said: HAM sound quality! ... Front microphone plug - perfect for using it with a JeepUniq mic mount! Downsides: a bit more expensive than comparative size CBs, but that's not apple to apple comparison this is a fully featured CB (it only lacks sideband to be considered top-of-the-line).
